After the initial trade announcement, ESPN insider Shams Charania followed it with two-time All-Star Nikola Vucevic being dealt to the Boston Celtics for Anfernee Simons. In addition, the Bulls are swapping a 2027 Nuggets second-round pick for the most favorable 2026 second-round pick of the Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans, New York Knicks, and Portland Trailblazers, according to Spotrac’s Keith Smith.
The Chicago Bulls have traded away the last significant piece from their initial roster overhaul under Arturas Karnisovas. In return, the Bulls acquired yet another guard, adding to an already crowded backcourt. With so many guards on the roster, it’s uncertain if the Bulls will keep Simons, especially as he’s on an expiring contract. As of now, there have been no concrete developments—current speculation arises from the Bulls’ decision to flip forward Dario Saric for Ivey before Saric even suited up, as well as ongoing rumors about the guard rotation.
Perhaps the most overlooked part of the trade is the team’s acquisition of a 2026 second-round pick, projected to fall between 31st and 35th in the draft. Given the Bulls’ past success in the second round—Ayo Dosunmu being a prime example—they could unearth another hidden gem.
Before the game, Coby White commented on the trade, expressing that he’ll miss Vucevic and noting that Vucevic was one of the first teammates to believe in him upon his arrival.
