Fun Spot America says goodbye to Atlanta, ArieForce One coaster

Updated Aug. 2, 2026, 7:48 a.m. ET FAYETTEVILLE, GA – The parking lot has been full of cars during the final days of operations at Fun Spot America Atlanta, a family-owned theme park in the suburb of Fayetteville.  The park itself wasn’t crowded during USA TODAY’s visit on July 30, but a steady stream of guests flowed through the front entrance, stopping only for security since there were no admission fees. Like its two sister parks in the Orlando area, the park roughly 20 miles south of Atlanta only charges guests for attractions.  Since the park’s closure was announced in late June, thrill seekers have come from far and wide to ride its world-class roller coaster, ArieForce One, for the first or last time.  If only this many people had consistently shown up sooner, perhaps the park would not be shuttering on Aug. 2, Fun Spot America Theme Parks Owner and CEO John Arie, Jr. told USA

Xi warns Trump of possible conflict over Taiwan at Beijing summit

One persistent source of tension is Taiwan, which Xi stressed to Trump is the most important issue in U.S.-China relations, according to a Chinese readout of the meeting. If the issue is handled properly, the relationship can remain “generally stable,” said the readout from China’s foreign ministry spokesperson. “Otherwise, the two countries will have clashes and even conflicts, putting the entire relationship in great jeopardy,” Xi is said to have told Trump. Taiwan was widely expected to be a top agenda item during the two-day state visit by Trump, the first by a U.S. president since he last went to

Iran attacks Kuwait, trades strikes with U.S. in test to ceasefire

Iran launched a deadly new set of attacks in the Persian Gulf on Wednesday as it traded strikes with the United States, the latest exchange to threaten the fragile ceasefire and stalled peace talks between the two countries. One person was killed and flights were suspended in Kuwait, officials said, after missile and drone strikes, including an attack on its international airport. The U.S. military said it shot down Iranian drones near the Strait of Hormuz and struck Iran’s Qeshm Island a day earlier. Repeated military exchanges between Washington and Tehran, as well as Israel’s escalating campaign in Lebanon, have

Vance lands in Switzerland as Iran says Strait of Hormuz is closed over ceasefire violations

Iran said Saturday that the Strait of Hormuz is closed, citing ceasefire violations after Israel continued deadly strikes in southern Lebanon overnight. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy warned ships not to approach the waterway, which Iran had committed to reopening under the interim peace deal signed this week. It said in a statement that vessels’ safety would be at risk if they did so. Iran’s top joint military command said the closure was the “first step” in response to what were described as ‌breaches of commitments by the U.S. and Israel, according to Iran’s semiofficial Mehr news agency. Monrovia, Liberia – On the streets of Liberia’s capital, the signs of the kush crisis are increasingly hard to miss. Young people gather in neighbourhoods where families say addiction has pulled children away from school, their homes and their communities.Kush, a cheap and highly addictive synthetic street drug, has spread across parts of West Africa and become one of Liberia’s most urgent public concerns.
