Trump: ‘Our ships load better ammunition if negotiations fail’
US President Donald Trump is back to threatening Iran ahead of the expected start of talks in Pakistan, claiming that US warships are loading up with the “best ammunition” ahead of a possible resumption of attacks if negotiations fail. “We will find out in about 24 hours. We’ll know soon enough,” Trump said in a telephone interview with the New York Post in response to a question about whether he thought the talks would be successful. “We are implementing a reset. We’re loading the ships with the best ammunition, the best weapons ever made – even better than the ones we’ve used before and blown them to pieces with,” added Trump, who then issued a new warning to Tehran: “If we don’t reach an agreement, we’re going to use them, and we’re going to use them very effectively.”
US-Iran negotiations: Tehran delegation led by Ghalibaf arrived in Islamabad
The Iranian delegation led by the Speaker of Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, arrived in Islamabad ahead of talks with the US. This was reported by the Iranian media. According to State TV, the delegation also includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Araghchi, the Secretary of the Defence Council, Ali Akbar Ahmadian, and the Governor of the Central Bank, Abdolnaser Hemmati, as well as a number of parliamentarians. The talks, according to the broadcaster, will only begin if Washington accepts the preliminary conditions set by Tehran.
Moscow, all participants in the negotiations adopt a responsible approach
“Today opens an opportunity to resolve a complex situation in the Persian Gulf area. The majority of the world’s countries support this process and trust in the success of the negotiations between the US and Iran, which should begin in Islamabad with the mediation of our Pakistani friends”. This was stated in a note from the Russian Defence Ministry. “However, unfortunately, there are forces obstructing the path to peace, creating, voluntarily or involuntarily, impediments along this path. In particular,” it is stressed, “those who unleashed the aggression against Iran and who now blame it for the problems with navigation in the Strait of Hormuz should not distort the way events actually unfolded, nor the fact that until 28 February this important maritime artery was functioning without interruption”. Moscow states that it supports “the resolution of existing differences between the countries in the region through politico-diplomatic means. We call on all participants in the negotiations announced in Pakistan to adopt a responsible approach and avoid any action that could jeopardise this opportunity’.
