King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived in the U.S. this week, but President Trump has faced criticism for what some have called a “disrespectful” action.
On Monday, video footage emerged showing the Royals’ arrival at the White House, where President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed them. During the greeting, observers were quick to notice behavior that many considered inappropriate.
The Office of the First Lady posted a video on X with the caption: “President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcome King Charles III and Queen Camilla of the U.K. at the South Portico of the White House | Monday, April 27, 2026,” reports Mirror US.
Sharp-eyed viewers immediately spotted something after Trump reportedly delivered an “aggressive handshake.” This followed earlier attention on a strange bulge noticed in Trump’s pants, prompting concerning speculation.
Following the video’s posting on X, viewers were eager to express their opinions. One person quickly shared an image of Trump touching Queen Camilla’s arm, commenting: “This is so disrespectful.”

Trump knows the rules
While some considered the gesture “fine” and believed “the President was just being helpful,” others suggested the President’s behavior could be seen as problematic. Several also observed that he placed his hand on King Charles’s arm as well.
Another commenter noted: “I do not think you are supposed to touch a King or Queen but, of course, Trump loves breaking protocol.” A third user replied: “I noticed that too. Trump also touched Camilla.” Another commenter weighed in with: “Forget etiquette – Donald has never heard of the word, nor has he heard of respect.”
For those unfamiliar with British Royal Protocol, initiating physical contact with a King or Queen is considered inappropriate. The only sanctioned form of contact is a handshake, and only if the Royal extends their hand first.
Hugging, kissing, or placing an arm around a member of the Royal Family is strongly discouraged and deemed improper. While not legally binding, observing this tradition is regarded as a mark of respect.
He breaks them anyway
Not everyone was critical, however, with some praising the welcome extended to the Royals at the White House. One commenter said: “Thank you for such a warm welcome to Their Majesties!” while another stated: “I’m so proud of President and Mrs Donald J. Trump! I’m proud of how gracious and good willed you both are.”
A third observer remarked: “A historic, diplomatic moment. When leaders meet with mutual respect at the White House, it’s more than ceremony – it’s a reminder of the long-standing alliance and shared history between the two nations.”
The comments come as King Charles III and Queen Camilla continue their U.S. visit, the first British state visit to the country since Queen Elizabeth II’s trip in 2007, aimed at celebrating the enduring bond between the two nations.
This development comes as concerns mount over the president’s unpredictable conduct – just days earlier, Trump made a disturbing sex comment on stage that left his audience stunned into silence.
