New Hampshire runner breaks second record at Special Olympics USA Games
New Hampshire runner Thomas Cantara set another record at the USA Special Olympics on June 25.
He broke the 10K record by close to 52 seconds.
“I knew I could beat that 10K record, and just focus on staying consistent with the race, and I kept looking at the clock every time, and I knew I was on pace for it,” Cantara said.
Earlier this week, Cantara also set a record in the 1,500-meter men’s final with an official time of four minutes, 30 seconds, which is about three seconds faster than the previous record.
“I’m happy I did it, and I’m happy I pushed through in my training,” Cantara said. “It feels good when you go to a race, and you know you did exactly what you did in training, or better, and it just comes together. It’s a great feeling.”
Cantara has won the para T-20 division at the Boston Marathon for the last three years in a row.
The 2026 Special Olympics USA Games brought together 3,000 athletes, 1,500 coaches, 10,000 volunteers, and 75,000 fans from all 50 states in Minnesota. See the results here.
