Round of 16: Canada vs Morocco
Time/TV: 1:00 PM ET on Fox at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas
Why watch: This is a rematch of a 2022 World Cup group stage match, with Morocco winning 2-1. So there is some history here. The clash of styles will be a really interesting one as Canada deploy their high-pressing system against the calculated and systematic mindset of Morocco. Hopefully that results in an entertaining matchup that produces some goals.
Why it could disappoint: Canada has seen success against less talented sides with their aggressive tactics. How will they hold up against a team with impressive World Cup pedigree? If Morocco handle the pressure and hit them on the break to get ahead early, it could be a long day for the Canadians and viewers at home hoping to see some drama.
Round of 16: Paraguay vs France
Time/TV: 5:00 PM ET on Fox at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Why watch: David has already slain Goliath. The reward? Another even bigger Goliath. Paraguay will be looking to pull off another massive upset against the team most people feel is destined to win the whole thing. If the underdog angle isn’t your thing, there’s always the race to the Golden Boot that’s been one of the most fun stories of this tournament.
Messi made his statement, now the ball is in Mbappe’s court. Can he continue his fantastic run of goals and pull within reach again?
Why it could disappoint: We know what Paraguay is going to do. Sit back, defend for their lives, and hope for something to go their way if they get to go forward. If that plan falters and France find a breakthrough, it could get ugly fast as the South Americans don’t have the attacking firepower to keep up.
