Quarterfinal: Norway vs. England
Time/TV: 5:00 PM ET on Fox at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida
Why watch: This may be the most intriguing of all the quarterfinals. The upstart Norway taking on the perennial powerhouse in England is only scratching the surface. Two of the best strikers in the world face off, trying to lift their sides to the semis. Erling Haaland is at the peak of his powers after his brace sent Brazil packing. Can he do the same to the country he was born in? Meanwhile, England are coming off the most chaotic match of the whole tournament. How will they rebound after surviving the Azteca?
Why it could disappoint: It’s hard to see how this one won’t entertain. If a scenario exists, perhaps it’s Norway deciding to sit back and England struggling to break them down. Both sides will know that Haaland is the threat. If he’s neutralized, it may be completely up to the Three Lions to get a goal to open up the match.
Quarterfinals: Argentina vs Switzerland
Time/TV: 9:00 PM ET on Fox at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri
Why watch: If any Argentina match isn’t appointment viewing for you at this point, you may want to check your pulse. The defending champions have been involved in two knockout round classics so far. Any match could be Lionel Messi’s last on the world stage. He’s playing with a desperation and passion like he understands that and it’s must-see TV.
Why it could disappoint: Switzerland could once again be without their fledgling star, Johan Manzambi, as he’s in a race to return from injury. If he’s unable to play, it’s hard to see how this team troubles Argentina in attack. Another long and sluggish path to penalties may be their only hope of advancing. While that would please the people hoping for an upset, it won’t make for an entertaining 90 (or 120) minutes.
