André Jardine, whose Club América team was thrashed 4-1 by Tigres on Saturday, is enduring the toughest stretch of his otherwise successful tenure with Las Águilas.
In Liga MX’s Clausura 2026 tournament, América has collected just 11 points from three wins, two draws, and three losses – one of the lowest totals in club history at roughly the halfway mark of a regular season in Mexico’s short-tournament era.
Hope for América in 2024 turnaround?
Recent history suggests América can turn things around in the second half of the league phase. After all, Jardine and his squad can take heart from the Apertura 2024 – a season that also began on a sour note, but ended in glory.
In the Apertura 2024, América had 12 points after eight matchdays, only one more than they have now.
Over the remainder of that tournament, the team found a way to steady themselves, take on all challengers, and ultimately lift their 16th league title and third straight championship – an unprecedented achievement at the time.
However, that run stands as an outlier – a rare success story born from a shaky regular season. In general, such low point totals at this stage have historically led to some of the club’s poorest finishes.
