United States Secret Service agents have shot dead a man who breached the secure perimeter of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort while carrying a shotgun and a fuel can. The Secret Service said in a statement he was observed at the Florida resort’s north gate at about 1:30am, local time. The US president is currently in Washington and was not at the site at the time. The man in Sunday’s incident was identified as Austin Tucker Martin, 21, from North Carolina, according to a source familiar with the investigation. Updated March 9, 2026, 12:39 p.m. ET Security lines stretched for hours at several major U.S. airports Sunday, March 8, as a partial government shutdown and the start of spring break travel collided, leaving some passengers scrambling to make their flights. Airports, including Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, reported unusually long wait times at Transportation Security Administration checkpoints. At one point Sunday afternoon, security lines at Hobby Airport averaged about three and a half hours. By 6 p.m., waits were still around three hours. With the completion of the final indoor tournaments two weekends ago, USA Field Hockey is pleased to report a record number of 954 teams that participated throughout the national indoor season. The first National Indoor Tournament got underway starting on February 13 at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa. with 252 U-14 Girls and Co-Ed teams from across the country.
