How long did Trump speak in record-breaking State of the Union address?

President Donald Trump‘s State of the Union address was a marathon.

“It’s going to be a long speech, because we have so much to talk about,” he warned ahead of the address. And it was, at least one person appeared to be dozing off. Some Democrats left before it was over.

His speech surpassed both the record for the longest State of the Union addresses and any address to a joint session of Congress.

How long did Trump speak at SOTU?

Trump spoke for more than 1 hour and 47 minutes.

Who held the last record?

Former President Bill Clinton spoke for 1 hour, 28 minutes and 49 seconds in 2000.

Trump spoke even longer at the address for joint sessions of Congress in 2025, though that was technically not a State of the Union address. Then, he spoke for 1 hour, 39 minutes and 32 seconds, according to the University of California–Santa Barbara’s American Presidency Project. That was a record for an address to joint sessions of Congress.
