President Donald J. Trump has announced major U.S. combat operations in Iran, vowing to crush nuclear and missile programs
In an eight-minute video, Trump says the United States’ objective is to protect Americans by confronting and eliminating threats from Iran’s regime, which he describes as a long-standing sponsor of terrorism.
He said this operation follows decades of hostile actions, including the U.S. embassy hostage crisis, the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing, attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq, maritime incidents, and support for militant proxy groups across the Middle East, including Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel.
Trump said Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon, claiming prior U.S. strikes damaged key nuclear facilities and warning that further action will be taken if Iran continues its nuclear and missile programs.
“We are going to destroy their missiles and raise their missile industry to the ground,” Trump said. “It will be totally again obliterated. We are going to annihilate their navy. We are going to ensure that the region’s terrorist proxies can no longer destabilize the region or the world and attack our forces and no longer use their IEDs or roadside bombs as they are sometimes called to so gravely wound and kill thousands and thousands of people including many Americans.”
Trump acknowledged the risk for military forces.
“I do not make this statement lightly — the Iran regime seems to skill,” he said. “The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost and we have may have casualties but that often happens in war.”
Trump called the mission necessary for future and long-term national security and expresses confidence in the strength of the U.S. military.
During the last two minutes of the video, Trump spoke to the people of Iran, asking them to not leave their home because “it’s very dangerous outside, bombs will be dropping everywhere.”
“When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will be probably your only chance for generations. For many years you have asked for America’s help, but you never got it… Now you have a president who is giving you what you want, so let’s see how you respond. America is backing you with overwhelming strength and devastating force. Now is the time to seize control of your destiny and to unleash the prosperous and glorious future that is close within your reach. This is the moment for action. Do not let it pass.” — he said.
