Saket Srinivasaiah, a 22-year-old student from Bengaluru, who had been missing in the United States for six days, has been found dead, the Indian Consulate in San Francisco confirmed.
Saket was pursuing a Master’s degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He had been reported missing since February 9 after he was last seen near the university campus.
According to reports, search operations were carried out in areas including the Berkeley Hills and near local parks after his disappearance. His bag, containing his passport and laptop, was reportedly recovered near a park in the vicinity, intensifying the search efforts.
In a statement, the Indian Consulate in San Francisco expressed deep sorrow over the student’s death and said steps were being taken to repatriate his mortal remains to India. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
An alumnus of IIT Madras, Saket was known for his academic excellence. He was also among a team of innovators granted a patent related to a micro-cooling system designed for Hyperloop technology.
