When it comes to fire and ice, Drake fans are not afraid of either.
On April 20, the Canadian rapper shared on social media a photo of a massive ice sculpture he placed in downtown Toronto. “Gonna pull up with an excavator and truck load of salt,” one fan commented. Another wrote, “Otw (on the way) with a blow dryer!”
Drake noted that the release date for his upcoming highly anticipated project, “Iceman,” is hidden inside the sculpture and dropped an address on his Instagram story.
The announcement drew a crowd of fans who used the ice blocks as a photo op. However, viral videos show others brought flamethrowers and sledgehammers to the scene to attempt to thaw and break down the structure.
Some even started a fire on top of it, local police said. University of Toronto Professor Valentin Crépel, a theoretical quantum physicist, estimated in an interview with Pitchfork that the sculpture weighs “above 200 tons.” The expert argued that the flamethrower method fans are trying is “surprisingly ineffective.”
Police responded to the scene to control the crowd
Toronto Police Service said officers were called to the area just after 11 p.m. local time for reports of people on top of the 25-foot spectacle.
Police confirmed with USA TODAY in a statement that people “were breaking off chunks of the ice with pickaxes and hammers and throwing them. A fire was also set atop the structure.”

“Large pieces of ice began falling, creating a dangerous situation for people on the ground, as well as those who climbed the structure,” the statement continued. “Officers attended and remained on scene out of concern for public safety and to assist with crowd and traffic control.”
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
Fans want Drake to ‘drop nukes’ on new album

The ice blocks are the latest teaser for Drake’s ninth studio album, “Iceman”. He hinted at an ice-related move in a vague post on social media a day before.
The Instagram story showed a text thread with a photo of a block of ice that read: “It’s in,” as Complex reported. Also, earlier this month, the Toronto Raptors shared a video of icy courtside seats with the caption, “Drake’s seat froze.”
Some fans are hoping that the “Nokia” artist addresses his historic feud with rap rival Kendrick Lamar on the album.
“I hope he drops some nukes on there and gets back at Kendrick a little bit,” one fan told the CBC. “There hasn’t been a good rap album this whole year, so he’s going to come save the industry, save the summer. It’s going to be Drake’s summer.”
