Eight-year-old Margaux Fox discovered just how strong she was when she faced the toughest challenge of her black belt test.
By the final portion of her exam at Champions Martial Arts in New Milford, New Jersey, Margaux was physically and emotionally exhausted.
“Margaux had already completed a series of physically demanding fitness tests and multiple curriculum evaluations,” said Master Seongyeon Jang, who coached her during the test. “She had also successfully broken five boards using techniques like the roundhouse kick, tornado kick, spinning hook kick and back kick.”
Fighting through tears, Margaux stepped up to a thick stack of boards for her final test.
“The tears weren’t from fear,” Master Jang said. “They were the result of pushing herself to her limits after giving everything she had throughout the test.”
Seeing her struggle, Master Jang asked the other students to cheer her on. “As her instructor, I tried to stay composed and encourage her,” he said. “But inside, I was emotional too.”
With one final scream, Margaux squared up to the stack of boards.
Watch the moment Margaux dug deep and discovered what she was truly capable of.
“It reminded me that earning a black belt is about much more than breaking boards,” Master Jang said. “It’s about developing the confidence and resilience to keep going when you think you have nothing left.”
