Hormuz, two US military ships repelled Iranian attacks
Two US Navy destroyers crossed the Strait of Hormuz and entered the Persian Gulf after facing an Iranian attack with small boats, missiles and drones. This was reported by US defence officials to CBS, giving details of the incident which still has unclear contours.
According to sources, the USS Truxtun and USS Mason, supported by Apache helicopters and other aircraft, were exposed to a series of coordinated threats during the passage. Iran reportedly launched small boats, missiles and drones at the US units in what officials described as a sustained attack.
Despite the intensity of the action, neither US ship was hit. Military officials explained that defensive measures, reinforced by air support, intercepted or deterred any incoming threats and that no projectiles fired reached the ships.
The transit comes after US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that the US would help “guide” ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage for global energy traffic that Iran has been trying to control since the start of the US military operation in late February. Hundreds of oil tankers and other ships have been stranded in the Persian Gulf for months, contributing to rising global oil prices.

The Iranian authorities have accused the United States of killing five civilians following their attack on two merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The Tasnim news agency writes this, citing a military source. According to the source, the ships carrying civilian goods were on their way from the Omani port of Khasab to the Iranian coast.
Hormuz, Iran: Project Freedom a failure, ships do not pass
The Strait of Hormuz remains ‘entirely in Iranian hands’ and the US Project Freedom has failed. This was claimed today by the Iranian Tasnim agency, citing verifications based on official international maritime tracking data.
According to Tasnim, no ships have transited the strait in the past 24 hours as part of the US operation, announced by Washington as an initiative to create a new route of safe passage for vessels.
The agency wrote that the US Navy had claimed since yesterday that it had created a new transit corridor in the Strait of Hormuz, but that, based on maritime tracking satellite data, no ship had so far crossed the waterway under Project Freedom. Even the claim about the passage of a ship of Danish container handling giant Maersk would not yet be officially confirmed, Tasnim added
