Day 25 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup is the second day of the round of 16. Two marquee matches on the slate: Brazil against Norway at MetLife Stadium, then Mexico taking on England at Estadio Azteca in what should be another incredible atmosphere. The two winners of these matches will face each other in the quarterfinals.
All times Eastern and accurate as of Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 11:38 p.m.
Round of 16: Brazil vs Norway
Time/TV: 4:00 PM ET on Fox at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey
Why watch: Two high-powered attacks led by two world-class talents squaring off in a do-or-die match. It’s Erling Haaland on one side and Vini Jr. on the other. This one promises to be an intriguing matchup for a spot in the last eight.
Why it could disappoint: On paper, this appears to be one of the more fun matchups of the round. However, if Brazil shows up and plays up to their immense potential and the lights become too bright for Norway, this could easily become a one-sided match.
Round of 16: Mexico vs England
Time/TV: 8:00 PM ET on Fox at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, CDMX
Why watch: Without a doubt, the tie of the round of 16. The history between these two sides at this venue speaks for itself and only adds to the tension of the massive occasion. Can Mexico’s intense home field advantage lift them over a talented England team full of world-class players? This promises to be one of the most can’t-miss matches of the whole tournament.
Why it could disappoint: Sometimes the occasion can be too big. Both sides will be under extreme pressure. That could weigh heavily on the teams and produce a match of soccer that doesn’t live up to the billing. It’s happened plenty of times in the past. Hopefully that doesn’t happen and we’re treated to an unforgettable experience.
